McCurdy Memorial

Summary

Saturday, October 11:

Sailors arrived at 9:00AM to chilly temperatures and a light drizzle, but decent wind of about 8 mph out of the north. The first race was off by 10:15AM and we managed to complete five full rotations in anticipation of light winds on Sunday. Twice around windward-leeward courses were sailed all day with the exception of the last rotation where once around windward-leeward courses were sailed. Wind held steady all day at anywhere from 8-10 mph with gusts up to 16 mph at some points during the day. All races went off quite smoothly with minimal delays to adjust the course and one general recall in race 9B. There were no capsizes or protests filed. Our last race finished around 4:30PM.

Sunday, October 12:

Sailors arrived at 10AM to a sunny day, but the anticipated very light wind. A Fleet went out by 11:00AM and managed to get one race off quickly, but during the second race we experienced a radical wind shift from the Northeast to to the Southwest and the subsequent ceasing of a breeze altogether. The race was called and we waited for the breeze to pick up again in order to adjust the course and get the second race off. B Fleet experienced similar difficulties with shifting and dying winds. Wind finally filled in to about 6mph out of the west around 1:55PM and the sixth rotation was completed by 2:15. Unfortunately there was not enough time to complete the desired 7th rotation by the 3:00PM stopping time. Many teams were neck and neck throughout the competition, but at the end of 6 rotations University of Delaware was in first place by one point, followed by Ocean County College. Thank you to all of the attending teams, North East Yacht Club, and the University of Delaware Sailing Team for helping us put on a great event!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
