Hewitt Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 1:

Fifteen teams arrived to light rain and 5-8kts of westerly breeze. The rain came and went, and the breeze went NW, N, NE, and finally east, varying between 0-8kts. Six races were completed in both divisions, and one protest was heard and disallowed. Sailors enjoyed the extreme high tides that Maine has had recently, with high tide at 2:30pm, and current was a factor throughout, as indicated by the dead seal.

Many thanks to Stu McNeil '08 running the PRO boat with Jane Koopman '10 and Tom Charpentier '10 and DJ Hatch '11 in the mark boat, plus all the current sailors there to help and grill with carpenters' squares.

Sunday, October 2:

Sailors returned to Bethel Point in steady rain, but the day was not a total wash, since we were also blessed with plenty of wind and competitors were able to enjoy the luxurious boathouse facility during their offsets, and meet Bambi. And additional six races were completed in each division, and a protest was heard resulting in a disqualification in race 7A. Many thanks to the coaches who volunteered to handle the protest! Thanks are also due once again to Stu McNeil '08 and DJ Hatch '11 who were out on/in the water all day with the help of Alex Brown '13 and Ayaka Okawa '14 and a large crew of Bowdoin sailors on land.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
