SAISA Open

Saturday: Competitors arrived to a glassy Cooper River, sunny skies, and a high tide. A southeast wind filled in around 11:00. Sailors headed out to a wind that maxed out at 8-10 knots. The tide began to ebb rather hard. The “up hill” current led to several one minute rules, general recalls, and short beats. All courses were windward leeward style; W3’s, W4’s, & W5’s with offsets and gates. Dark skies and lightening winds enticed the RC to end racing after 6B. Sunday: Competitors arrived to a light northwest wind, cloudy skies, and a flood tide. Races 7 & 8 for both A & B divisions were Gold Cup courses; course 5. During race 8B the wind shifted to the north. Starting with race 9A the course was changed to a windward leeward style course; W4’s with offsets and gates. As the skies cleared the north wind died and the tide began to ebb. Sailors retreated to the marina. With the forecast of thunderstorms, a strong ebb tide, and no southerly in sight the sailors packed up and got on the road. Thanks to all of the undergraduate Cougars who helped run the event.
