Army Spring Open

Summary

Saturday, May 2:

Sailors arrived to Cornwall Yacht Club and were greeted with a beautiful, but glassy calm Newburgh Bay. The race committee postponed the first set until a steady enough breeze could fill in from the north. The hosts fired up the grills in the meantime and prepared the traditional Army Spring Open lunch for all teams. Finally around 1230 a 4-6 knot NW breeze filled in which was just enough to counter the strong ebb current. A Division got off two races just before the wind failed entirely. The race committee postponed for a while before a 90 degree right shift filled in the bay with winds peeking at about 8-10 knots. By then the ebb flow of the Hudson was ripping setting up a tough cross current beat. B Division squeezed in 2 races before the wind dropped below 5 knots making headway into the current all but impossible. The race committee called it a day around 1545. Teams will regroup and report at 0900 on Sunday hoping for more favorable conditions.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
