SCOR

Summary

Saturday, February 8:

The 4 teams were greeted by a nice chilly rain and a north 6-10mph breeze.the teams were sailing a ID 35 and 3 J/120's. The racing was tight in the shifty puffy challenging conditions. Though the Cougars won the first race, it was Cal Maritime dominated the day with three bullets. Navy was close behind with 3 seconds.

Eventually the sun came out the breeze picked up and the sailors enjoyed a beautiful end to the day! Thanks to Cora and Carolina Yc for their support!

Sunday, February 9:

Sunday morning was a totally different day for the sailors. With temps approaching 65 with bright sun, the only thing lacking was breeze. Patience and a one hour postponement was the right call as a light 4-6 mph seabreeze filled and the fleet finally started race 5 at 12:30. Navy crossed the line first but due to a start line infraction took a 20% penalty that left them tied with Charleston for a second place finish. Cal Maritime finished in third that seemed to cinch their regatta victory with the chance of more than one race left to sail slim. Race 6 started at 1:57 (the time limit was 2pm!) and Charleston led this race from start to finish with Navy second, Cal third and Coast Guard 4th. Congrats to Cal Maritime for an excellent series. Navy and Charleston tied and Charleston won the tiebreaker. The Coast Guard Bears were fourth. Charleston sure appreciates the efforts that these three schools made in coming to the first SCOR offshore college regatta.Their presence will help create even more enthusiasm for a bigger and better regatta next year. Thanks to Cora for their support, the 4 boat owners john Lucas, John Keenan, Rick Moore and Bill Hankel for loaning their boat. Thanks to Carolina YC for sponsoring the event and providing a nice dinner Saturday night. Thanks to Dan Machowski and Tripp Fellabom for their spot on race management, Priscilla Parker for the photos and JD Rosser and Sarah Ashton for standing by as judges. Congrats again to Cal Maritime on a great regatta.
