MCSA Men's Singlehanded Championships

Summary

Saturday, October 14:

Around 8:30 sailors started appearing to compete in the MCSA Singlehanded Championships hosted by collegiate teams Grand Valley State University and Hope College through the Macatawa Bay Junior Sailing Association. By 9:00 after getting a run down of events from the Race Committee sailors and rigging their boats, sailors started to launch on Macatawa Bay. The wind started out moderately light, however picked up within the hour to get through both the men's and women's divisions. Based on wind conditions that were being monitored for the afternoon and next day, the sailors stayed out on the water until approximately 1pm to get the best wind conditions possible before it was suppose to die down. After battling the rain and light wind in the morning sailors came in to dry off and eat, gaining recomposer after being out on the water for the morning. Attempting to get an eighth race in after completing seven in the morning, the sailors launched about forty minutes later. However once out on the water the rain started to pick up more and the wind died to around 0-2 knots, forcing them to turn in and head back to the yacht club. Since several races were completed in the morning and the rain was due to pick up even more later in the day, championships was brought for a close for the day. Additionally, after looking at the radar for the Sunday, wind was suppose to pick up to an extreme amount around 2am creating un-sailable conditions. Therefore championships had to be brought to an end, as the hosts presented prizes and food to bring home for the competing sailors. Both University of Wisconsin sailors Korbin Kierstead and Charlie Kutschenreuter, as well as University of Michigan sailors Mason Wolter, qualified to move on to nationals after a steady time out on the water.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
