2017 Triangle Tango Intercollegiate

Summary

Saturday, November 18:

Saturday morning greeted teams with sunny skies and consistent 10-15mph breeze on Lake Crabtree. Sailors from NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and UNC-Wilmington traveled to Raleigh to compete in the 4th annual Triangle Tango Regatta, a battle for North Carolina sailing superiority.

NC State jumped out to an early lead with a strong showing by their B-Fleet entry, with the A-Fleet entries from Wake Forest and UNC-Wilmington close behind. Close, competitive starts were the order of the day for the whole fleet, but by the 4th race of the day, Wilmington's A-Fleet took control of the regatta dialing in bullets for the remainder of the day. A late surge from UNC-Chapel Hill brought the Heels close, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Wolfpack or Seahawks. By the early afternoon, Lake Crabtree was starting to whitecap and racing was fun and fast with a few boats capsizing during the last few races of the day.

In the end, UNC-Wilmington proved too strong and held on to win the 2017 Triangle Tango Regatta. Congrats to the Seahawks, and many thanks to all the teams who participated, as well as all of the SailPack sailors, race committee and volunteers that helped put on a great regatta to close out the fall season. Photos from the event will be up online soon at go.ncsu.edu/Sailing or facebook.com/SailPack.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
