Sherman Hoyt Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 22:

Difficult day on the Providence River. After a short on-land postponement, A Division was sent out on the water, but a race was not able to be started until 1pm. We were able to complete 8 windward/leeward races in 3-10 knots of breeze, varying over 90 degrees in direction from the West to the North. One protest was heard, resulting in a DSQ.

Sunday, October 23:

An early report time allowed for one early morning A Division race, sailed in 3-4 knots of Northerly breeze. After an extended on-land postponement, B Division was sent out and was able to complete 2 races, A Division was then able to complete race 6A just before the time limit. The afternoon races were sailed in 3-10 knots of SW - N breeze. One protest was heard, resulting in a DSQ.

Thank you to Niki Osvalds, Brown '11, for running the windward mark boat in trying conditions and helping with breakdowns, the Boston College and Brown undergrads for managing on-land logistics, Justin Assad for acting as the ICSA Rep., and most importantly George Crocker, Liz Barry, and Jeff Knowles for donating their time to act as judges for the event.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
